How do you cool your baby down in the summer heat?

edited July 2016 in Leisure & Holidays
Where we are it is really hot at the moment, about 35 degrees and my baby can´t get a proper rest during the day because of that. We try and go swimming a lot but right now it’s just too hot and sunny for a baby and he doesn’t even want to wear a hat outside at the moment because his head is getting so hot with it.

I let him have a bath a few times a day and wash his feet with cool water every now and then but he is really poor.

What do you do to cool your baby down in summer? Do you have any other tips for us?

  • Drinking cold water might seem like it cools you down, but in the long run it really doesn't. It makes your body do more work to get it to room temperature. Putting cold water bottles or ice packs on the back of the neck, feet or forehead are great though, and that's usually what we do.

  • I would probably spend as much time as possible in the pool and in the air conditioning! Heat is for being in the water in my opinion. Otherwise I'll do everything I can to be inside unless I have to go somewhere before it cools down.

  • Make sure and pick the right kind of clothes. Babies don't sweat the way that we do, so they need soft cotton outfits that will let heat circulate away from their bodies. My boys seem to like frozen grapes. I keep them in the freezer and pull them out for snacks. It helps to cool them down and is more healthy than sugar heavy popsicles.
